Reg Smith - Chairman
Reg Smith started his career in Zimbabwe in 1970 as a draughtsman at Rodox designing medical and industrial gas installations and their associated cryogenics. He was later promoted to Project Engineer. During this period, he obtained his National Technical Diploma. In 1978, he immigrated to South Africa to take up a position at Mather & Platt as a Senior Design Draughtsman with their special risks division and was later promoted to Contracts Manager. In 1982 he started his own company, Pyrotechnic, which operated as a design service and consultancy for the fire protection industry. He expanded the company a decade later to do fire protection contracts, including sprinkler and special risks fire protection systems. In 2001 he teamed up one of the largest fire protection companies to run the special risks division as the Chief Operations Officer. He started KRS Fire in 2012. Realising that the experience he has gained over the past 40 years is invaluable, skills transfer is a high priority to his staff and successors.
Kenneth Smith - CEO
Kenneth Smith started work in the fire protection industry in 2003 as a sprinkler draughtsman for one of the leading fire protection companies. After 3 years he was promoted to the Special Risks Division as a draughtsman. After gaining extensive knowledge on special risks, he was promoted to the position of Contracts Manager. Kenneth has worked for major corporates such as Anglo Coal, Sasol Technologies and other mining houses. In 2009, as a result of his design and project experience in the field, he was offered the position of Senior Estimator. As part of furthering his education, he obtained ASIB competency and Project Management Certification. The positions he has held formed the groundwork to acquire a broad skill set and knowledge base in the fire industry. He is proud to be involved with the finest human capital in the fire protection industry.
Kevin Wittekind - Senior Projects Manager
Kevin Wittekind has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, mostly in the mechanical piping industry, on Power Plants and in the Mining Environment. He has excelled in his positions as Operations Director and Projects Manager at some of the most successful fire protection companies. Kevin has gained extensive knowledge through his experience of running various projects with regards to the NFPA, FM and ASIB standards used commonly throughout the industry. He has worked on projects such as the Gautrain, Camden Power Station and Pelindaba Nuclear Plant to name a few. Kevin joined KRS Fire in January 2014 as Senior Projects Manager.
George Müller - Senior Contract Manager
George Müller started work in the fire protection industry in 2005 as a sprinkler draughtsman for a major Fire Protection Company. He was shortly promoted to the Special Risk Division as a draughtsman, gaining knowledge in special risks. He was later given the opportunity to take up the position of a Contracts Manager. George has worked on various projects including Coal, Gas, Gold and Diamond mines, all of these in South Africa and neighbouring African countries. As part of furthering his education, he obtained Project Management Certification and a Microsoft Project skills Certificate. George possesses detailed knowledge and experience in the fire protection industry with regard to client liaison, analysis of project requirements and implementation of project prerequisites.
Damien Johnson - Sales and Marketing Manager
Damien Johnson began his sales career in 1999 and quickly moved through the retail and consultant sectors before starting in the fire industry in May 2008 with one of the largest fire protection companies. After 2 years in the Sprinklers Division, completing a number of Howitt International Sales Courses, attaining a B-rating in the A.S.I.B. Rules Examination and successfully been awarded and negotiating numerous projects, Damien joined the Special Risks team. Here he excelled in his main sales position and along with his team, brought the company one of its most successful financial years in 2010/2011. For his drive in sales and quest for quality and service to his clients, Damien was offered a position at KRS Fire as the Sales and Marketing Manager, to help build the market leader in the Special Risks Fire Industry. He is proud to be associated with the top names and one of the fastest growing companies in the industry.
Jose Espadeiro - Sprinkler Division Manager
After completing his N4 diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Jose started his career in fire protection at the age of 19, as a draughtsman. In 1984, he joined one of the largest fire protection companies to run the drawing office. In 1986 he joined a young company, managing the drawing office and assisting with running some of their sites. In 1987 he was approached by another large fire protection company to join their design department. After two years he was promoted to the Small Works Department. In 2009 he was offered a transfer to Cape Town as Branch Manager. In 2012 he joined KRS Fire as Sprinkler Division Manager.
Louis Botha - Special Risks Design Manager
Louis Botha started work in the fire protection industry in 2002 as a Special Risks Division draughtsman. After gaining vast experience on special risks, he was promoted to the position of Senior Designer. Louis has done designs for major corporates such as Anglo Coal, Eskom, Impala Platinum and Sasol, to name a few. In 2007, as a result of his design experience , he was promoted to Drawing Office Manager. To better his portfolio with regards to design he obtained Auto Cad 3D and Bentley Microstation 2D and 3D certification. He has extensive design knowledge utilizing the NFPA and FM standards which has based him highly within the fire industry.
